This Privacy Policy describes how Here Kitty Kitty ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application on iOS and Android.
We do not ask you for your name, email address, or any other personal detail, and the App has no account to sign up for. Most of what the App remembers is kept on your own device. The exceptions are the Ranks boards, the anonymous usage measurement, and the advertising described below.
The App saves your play record in the browser storage of the app on your device: which cats you have found and how often, the number of cats and bonus things you have found on the daily searches, your times for each night's house, hints used, your daily stamps and streak, your sound setting, and the display name you have (or have chosen) for the boards. Everything except what the Ranks boards need, described below, stays on your device, and it is removed when you uninstall the App.
Everybody plays the same generated house each day. The Ranks screen shows two boards: one for cats and bonus things found, and one for the quickest times on the day's house. The App gives every player a random display name, such as CatFinder4821, and you can change it on the Ranks screen at any time. Once you have found something on a daily search, the following is sent to our Google Firebase project and is visible to other players in the in-game Ranks screen:
To make sure one player cannot overwrite another player's row, the App creates an anonymous Firebase account the first time it contacts the boards. It is not a login: there is no email address, no password, and nothing that identifies you. It is a random identifier stored on your device, and a fresh one is created if you reinstall the App.
If you switch on the daily reminder, the App asks your phone for permission to show notifications and then schedules one each day on your device. When and what it says is worked out on your device, and nothing about it is sent to us. You can change it or turn it off in Credits, or in your phone's Settings.
The Share buttons make a picture and a line of text on your device and hand them to your phone's share sheet. Nothing is sent to us; what happens next depends on the app you choose to send it with. The App may also ask you to rate it using your phone's own rating prompt, which the app store, not us, handles.
The More games screen fetches a short list of our other games from our GitHub Pages site. GitHub, which hosts it, may log your IP address as part of serving that request. Tapping a game opens its page in the app store.
The game can also be played in a web browser at lancecabson.github.io/hkk. It keeps your play record in your browser's storage, uses the same boards as described above, and carries no ads or analytics. The page is hosted by GitHub Pages, which may log your IP address.
We do not track your location, read your contacts, photos, or files, or ask for anything that identifies you as a person. The usage measurement described below counts what happens in the game; it is not tied to your name and is not used to work out who you are.
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the game is actually played — sessions started, houses finished, how long a night takes, how often a hint is asked for, which screens are opened. Firebase may collect device identifiers, usage data, and crash reports. No personally identifiable information is collected, and nothing you type is sent as part of it.
The boards use Firebase Authentication (anonymous sign-in) and Cloud Firestore to store and serve the entries described above. Google processes this data on our behalf as our hosting provider, and may log technical information such as your IP address as part of serving those requests.
The App displays a bottom banner and offers optional rewarded videos for hints. Unity LevelPlay manages these ads. For each ad it holds an auction between ironSource Ads, Unity Ads and Google AdMob, and the winning network shows the ad. Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) manages your consent choices. LevelPlay and these ad networks may process device identifiers (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android), IP addresses, device information, and ad interactions to deliver and measure ads. The game does not show forced interstitial ads.
On iOS we request your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework before the advertising identifier can be used for tracking. In the UK, the EEA, and other regions where it is required, we show Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent form before any ad is requested, and you can reopen that form at any time from the Credits screen inside the App to change your choice.
The App is distributed through Apple (App Store) and Google (Play Store). These platforms may collect usage and device information in accordance with their own privacy policies. We do not receive or store payment information.
On iOS 14.5 and later, we ask for your permission before your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) is used for personalised advertising. You may deny this request and the App will continue to function normally; ads will simply be less personalised. You can change your answer at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
The App is intended for players aged 13 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information — including a display name on a board — please contact us and we will delete it.
Data held on your device is deleted when you uninstall the App. A board entry stays on its board so the ranking remains accurate (a time on that day's speed board, and your totals on the cats and bonus things board), and cannot be deleted from inside the App. If you want an entry removed, email us with the display name and we will delete it. Data collected by the third-party services above is retained according to their own policies, linked above.
Depending on where you live you may have rights over your personal data, including access, correction, and deletion. For anything we hold — in practice, a board entry — contact us using the details below and we will act on it. For data held by advertising services, please use their privacy links above.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
